If you’re one who forgets to floss regularly, flossing right before your dental checkup or twice a month doesn’t cut it, even though many people have this habit. Forgetting to floss can put your smile in grave danger, which is why our dentist, Dr. Thomas E. Wold, strongly encourages you to floss at least once a day. If you floss daily, your smile and oral health will benefit from it, especially because flossing can:

-Remove plaque. Plaque is a dangerous substance that resides on the surfaces of and cracks between the teeth, and it’s very hazardous for the teeth and gums. It attacks the smile and promotes tooth decay development. Within 48 hours, it hardens into tartar, which is a toxic substance that is poisonous for the entire mouth.

-Help your gums stop bleeding. Although it seems like flossing makes the gums bleed in the first place, this is only because your gums aren’t used to the floss and because the gums send blood to fight the infection. This makes them bleed. The more you floss, the less they will bleed.

-Help your overall health. If you fail to floss, there is a high chance you can suffer gum disease. Gum disease is a major and serious disease that develops when plaque and tartar are not removed from the smile regularly by flossing. This disease can affect more than just your mouth. It can be linked to major health issues like heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. So, the more you floss, the higher chance you have of preventing gum disease and the healthier your body can be.
