Have you ever had sensitive teeth or known someone who has? If so, you probably already know that having sensitive teeth can be very unpleasant and painful. For example, you probably know that people who are suffering from sensitive teeth are sometimes hesitant to smile since cold air could aggravate their teeth. Similarly, patients with sensitive teeth may be nervous about eating their favorite foods for similar reasons. Luckily, there are a number of steps you can take to avoid these issues.

In fact, did you know that sensitive teeth can actually be caused by many different problems? For example, if you’ve lost the outer layer of your teeth, known as enamel, the next layer of your pearly whites—the dentin—will be exposed. Sadly, there are several things that could damage your enamel, including tooth decay, gum recession, and even brushing with a hard toothbrush.

There are several things you can consider trying, to prevent the problems that lead to sensitive teeth. For instance, you should remember to floss at least once a day and to brush twice a day. You might also consider using desensitizing toothpaste, which can help you deal with your tooth sensitivity. However, please be aware that you may need to wait up to six weeks to recognize any signs of improvement when using this toothpaste.

Still, there are a few foods and drinks you should stay away from. For example, lemons, apples, and pineapples could irritate your sensitive teeth. Sugary, spicy, hot, or cold foods and drinks can also aggravate your pearly whites
