Why Is Storing Your Toothbrush on a Counter a Bad Idea?

Why Is Storing Your Toothbrush on a Counter a Bad Idea?At one time, everybody in the family stored their toothbrushes, close to each other, on the counter in the bathroom. However, today, you do not want to do that, as it is a bad idea. You should store your toothbrush separately from other toothbrushes away from the bathroom counter.

The Bathroom Counter Is a Breeding Ground of Bacteria

There are several good reasons why you should not store your toothbrush on a bathroom counter. Not only is it musty and damp, which causes bacterial and viral growths, a bathroom counter is too close to the sink and toilet. If you wash your face, the splashes can contaminate your toothbrush, or if you flush the toilet, the spray can also be harmful. Plus, keeping your toothbrush next to other toothbrushes opens it up to cross-contamination.

Can You Place Your Toothbrush in the Medicine Cabinet?

Another place that is not toothbrush-friendly is the medicine cabinet. The cabinet serves as a breeding ground for germs, as it can become damp or humid inside. Instead, you need to find a place for your toothbrush where it can dry out completely, and it will not come into contact with other toothbrushes.

Storing Your Toothbrush in the Right Place

Probably your safest bet with respect to storage is to place your toothbrush on your bedroom dresser or on a nightstand. If your bedroom is well-ventilated and dry, it is the best spot for your toothbrush. To ensure the health of your teeth and gums, you also need to make sure your toothbrush is not exposed to bad bacteria.

Are you storing your toothbrush correctly? If not, now is a good time to switch your toothbrush's location. Also, if you have not had a professional dental cleaning in some time, give us a call. We can always fit you in for an exam and consultation.
