Do you believe you are flossing properly? If not, we can show you how to floss correctly so you can enjoy better dental health. The following information can be used as an outline for flossing with string floss.
How You Should Use Floss to Clean Your Teeth
Flossing is not too difficult, once you learn the steps. We can verify what you are doing wrong or right. To begin flossing, you need to take one piece of floss, about 18 inches in length. Wind the string around the middle fingers of each of your hands. Next, you want to pinch the string between the first finger and thumbs on each hand. This should give you about two inches open between your hands. Pull the floss right and guide it between two of your teeth. Use a back-and-forth movement, being careful to be gentle. Once the floss is situated between the teeth, wrap and slide the floss vertically, or up and down along tooth surfaces and beneath the gum.
The Benefits and Drawbacks of Using String Floss
While traditional flossing, if done correctly, is extremely efficient, it can be difficult to reach certain places in your mouth. Also, be aware that flossing, if not done daily, can cause minor bleeding. Gum sensitivity can also develop if you do not floss correctly. To support string flossing, you may want to buy a water flosser. After filling the reservoir, being with the lowest pressure setting. Lean over the sink, placing the tip of the flosser in your mouth. When you turn the unit on, close your lips to prevent any splashes. Allow the water to flow from your mouth and into the sink. Direct the tip of the flosser to the gum line.
As you can see flossing is an important part of regular in-home care. Don't neglect to brush your teeth without flossing at least once a day. If you have any problems with string floss, we can instruct you in the proper technique. We also think that the use of a water flosser for rinsing away food debris and covering the areas that are missed with a string flossing product is a good idea.
