Cheese Can Help Protect Your Teeth – How to Get More in Your DietNot only is cheese delicious, but it has the ability to protect and strengthen the teeth that make up your beautiful smile. Since cheese is made from milk, it naturally contains a very large amount of calcium, which helps to strengthen bones and teeth.

For some cheeses, you can reach your recommended daily amount of calcium with just a few small portions! Plus, who would not like a little more cheese in their lives. Not us!

A little-known fact about cheese and its wonderful ability to protect is its ability to regulate the pH levels in the mouth. Cheese, unlike many of the other foods we love to eat, is great at controlling the pH level in our mouths because it is around the same pH level as the saliva in our mouths. Our saliva registers around 7.4 on the pH scale and many foods can actually raise that number to dangerous levels.

Higher acidity level in the mouth can cause enamel decay, so it is important to have the right pH in the mouth. Cheese, unlike many acidic foods, can lower the acidity in the mouth because most cheeses have a pH balance of 5 to 6.

How to Eat More Cheese

Cheese lovers will be glad to hear that it is easy to add more cheese to your diet. We recommend eating cheese as an in-between meal snack. After eating, it is easy for your pH levels to be high, so eating some cheese before or after a meal will help to lower it back down. You can also add cheese to your actual meals. Cheese makes many dishes better.

You can add some cheese to your scrambled eggs in the morning or throw a slice on a sandwich. The possibilities are really endless when it comes to cheese. Our favorite way to use cheese is to add it to a salad. That way you can get your healthy greens and enjoy them too!
