Do I need a mouth guard?

At Dr Thomas E. WOLD Dentistry, our dentist, Dr. Thomas E. Wold, recommends a mouth guard for a variety of athletic activities. While some sports such as football, hockey, lacrosse, or boxing, may require the use of mouth guards, we recommend a mouth guard for any sport that may cause dental injury.

What types of mouth guards are there?

There are several different types of mouth guards, but each of them has different benefits and drawbacks. You may buy a stock guard for sporting good stores, but they can make breathing difficult, and must be clenched at all times. Another store bought option is a mouth guard that you boil and then bite. The material will harden around the teeth when bitten on, and are usually more comfortable and less bulky than stock guards. Our team is proud to offer custom-fit mouth guards in Bend, Oregon. These mouth guards offer the most comfort and are designed to offer the most protection. Custom-fit mouth guards are molded with a specific sport in mind and are designed to function best for that sport. Also, they are designed with extra considerations for each patient’s individual dental history to offer the best possible protection. If you have any more questions about mouth guards, or any of the services we offer, please contact us today. We look forward to hearing from you.
